We took out the water. Everything left is the good stuff.
Most skincare starts with water. Ours doesn't. Every Husk & Seed balm, oil and mask is made without it, so what goes on your skin is plant oils, butters and botanicals, and nothing that's just there to fill the jar.
It changes how our skincare feels, how far it goes and how you use it. Here's why we make it this way, and how to get the very best from it.
What's really in the jar?
Turn over most creams and lotions and water (often listed as ‘aqua’) comes first on the ingredient list, because there's more of it than anything else.
A typical cream
Mostly water, held together with emulsifiers and kept fresh with preservatives, with only a small amount of active ingredients.
A Husk & Seed balm
No water at all. Organic and cold-pressed plant oils, fruit butters, essential oils and vitamin E fill the whole jar.

Why we make it this way
Every scoop counts
Without water, the whole jar is made up of ingredients that care for your skin. That's why a pea-sized amount of balm or a few drops of oil is all you need, and why a jar goes further than you might expect.
No need for the preservatives creams rely on
Bacteria and mould need water to grow, so water-based creams need preservatives to keep them safe. Without water, our balms and oils don't rely on them. It's also why we ask you to keep water out of the jar and use a clean, dry spoon.
Short, simple ingredient lists
Without water, there's far less needed to hold a formulation together, so our ingredient lists are short and made up mostly of plant oils, butters and botanicals. Every one is listed on the product page, and you can find out what each does on our ingredients page.
Made for a moment of calm
Balms melt as they warm on your skin and oils glide, so they're made for massaging in slowly rather than rushing. Add the gentle scent of essential oils in most of our range, and two minutes of skincare become a small ritual to look forward to. Calm your skin, unwind your mind.

Getting the most from it
Waterless skincare, the easy way
Start with damp skin
After cleansing, apply your balms and oils to slightly damp skin. They spread more easily, sink in beautifully and help lock in hydration.
Use less than you think
A pea-sized scoop of balm or two or three drops of oil is plenty for your face and neck. Warm it between your fingertips first.
Keep the jar dry
Use a clean, dry spoon and pop the lid back on. Keeping water out helps your skincare stay fresh. Look for the egg timer symbol on your jar to see how long we recommend keeping it.

Your waterless questions, answered
Doesn't my skin need water?
Yes. Your skin needs water to stay hydrated, and your body naturally supplies this from within. What your skin also needs is help holding on to that hydration. Our botanical oils and butters help protect the skin's natural barrier and prevent moisture loss, keeping skin feeling soft, supple and comfortable. That's why we recommend applying our products to slightly damp skin, helping to lock in that all-important hydration.
Won't oils make my skin greasy?
Not when you use the right amount. A few drops pressed into damp skin sink in within a minute or two. If your skin ever feels oily, simply use a little less next time.
Is oil-based skincare suitable for combination or blemish-prone skin?
Absolutely! Harsh skincare products can strip away the skin's natural oils, leaving it feeling dry, tight and uncomfortable. This can disrupt the skin's natural balance and, in some cases, contribute to excess oil production as the skin tries to compensate. Our gentle, oil-based formulations cleanse and nourish without stripping away those protective oils, helping to support a healthy skin barrier and leaving skin feeling soft, comfortable and beautifully balanced.
Is everything in your range waterless?
Yes, 100% of our range is waterless. Everything we make is also vegan and made with sustainably sourced ingredients, many of them upcycled from seeds and fruit that would otherwise go to waste.
