Don’t we need water in skincare products to hydrate the skin? - Husk & Seed

Don’t we need water in skincare products to hydrate the skin?

Don’t we need water in skincare products to hydrate the skin? The short answer is no!

Because your skin draws water from the dermis below, and from the air around it (which can also be aided by humectants like our new ingredient Cupuacu) The biggest reason big brands add water to a moisturiser is to to make it cheaper to produce – and not to help alleviate dry, dehydrated skin. And the chemical agents that are required in water-based skincare are most definitely not helping your skin become less dry!

Look out for known skin irritants including:

sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)
cetearyl alcohol
polysorbates
silica
phenoxyethanol
parabens etc

Although it’s true skin can also react to natural ingredients (it’s possible to be allergic to anything) the difference in our formulations is that we only include an ingredient if it’s natural and if it serves a purpose to nourishing your skin. It only goes in if it helps your skin health.

Organic Rosehip, Cucumber Seed, Sea Buckthorn Pulp, Wild Lavender, Colliodal Oatmeal, Unrefined Shea Nilotica - just to name a few of the incredible plant oils, butters and powders the earth has gifted us.
