Skincare in the Summer - How You Should Adapt Your Routine.
The feeling of the warm sun on your face. The view of a blue sky without a cloud in sight. Warm, bright evenings. Summer.
This is the time of year that we step outside and enjoy the warmer temperatures, take time to travel and spend time outside. While the summer months bring longer days and warm weather, they also bring changes to our skin.
To keep our skin healthy and radiant in summer means that we too need to make small changes into our skincare routine. At Husk & Seed Skincare we understand that finding a skincare routine that works for you can be challenging, but with our help you can achieve a radiant complexion that instills confidence from the inside out.
To help you get started, we are sharing five essential summer skincare tips that will keep your skin healthy, vibrant, and glowing.
HOW SUMMER AFFECTS YOUR SKIN
The heat and humidity during the summer season may increase the activity of your sebaceous glands. This could make dry skin appear rough and patchy and cause irritation or make other areas of the skin oilier. In addition, the increase in temperature opens pores, allowing dirt and oil to get trapped in them and cause acne or unwanted blemishes.
ADAPTING YOUR SUMMER SKINCARE ROUTINE
Exfoliate Regularly!
Exfoliating rids the skin of dulling debris and dead skin cells, allowing your skin to breathe. This process can help clear out your pores and prevent this debris from clogging your pores and causing breakouts. If you’re busy try adding a little Gently Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant to your cleanser to create a deep cleansing double whammy. (Tip: mix the two in your palm and take into the shower to create a cleansing scrub steam!)
Wear Less Makeup.
At Husk & Seed Skincare our mission is to help you feel like you don’t need to wear makeup. In the summer, if you enjoy wearing make-up select light BB creams and light mineral powders because makeup can clog your pores and make it hard for it to breathe.
Apply and Reapply Sunscreen.
Sunscreen should be the one item you never leave the house without during the summer. Choose a sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 or higher and water resistant. Applying once is not enough either. Dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen every two hours, especially if you are spending all day in the sun. Never assume the SPF in your moisturiser is enough to get you through the day. We don’t make sunscreen - but if you are interested to know what we use drop us a line, we are happy to share!
Cleanse at night.
Cleansing before bed is essential all year around, but is ultra-important in summer. The additional use of SPF can clog pores, attract dirt and increase skin sensitivity. Reapplying SPF while we are out and about often means we are touching our faces more regularly which can also be a trigger for acne.
Double cleansing every night with an oil based cleanser like Gently Nourishing Cleansing Balm will clear away the days dirt, SPF and toxins to allow skin to breathe at night when it spends most of its time repairing and rejuvenating.
Drink Plenty of Water.
Water is so important to every function in our bodies, but it is also beneficial for the skin. Drinking plenty of water allows the body to flush toxins out of the skin and helps keep it soft and radiant.
During the summer we lose more water due to sweating through the heat, so remember to stay hydrated.
For an extra hydration boost apply your Husk & Seed Skincare products over damp skin straight after cleansing. Skin will appear brighter and healthier.
