Have you found that as you’ve aged your skin has got drier and isn’t producing as much oil as it used to? Gone is the annoying shiny T zone and pimples of your 20’s and 30’s, only to be replaced with a tight, itchy face in your 40’s and 50’s! As we age, we produce fewer natural oils and our cell renewal decreases. Throw in some sun damage and the depletion of hormones during the perimenopause and menopause and our skin is crying out for some moisture!
It’s also worth noting that there is a difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin. Dry skin lacks oil and dehydrated skin lacks water. You can be an oily or dry skin type and have dehydrated skin. Look for signs of dehydration in your skin. If I’m dehydrated, I get lines appearing on my forehead and the pores on my cheeks can appear larger. It’s easily sorted with a few glasses of water. I also apply my oils and balms to damp skin to boost the water in my skin.
So what can you do to relieve your dry skin? You could start by assessing the skincare products you are currently using. Often harsh ingredients in foaming cleansers, soaps, retinols or acids can leave your skin feeling tight after use. This means that they have likely stripped your skin of its natural oils and are upsetting your acid mantle, which protects your skin from everyday damage. Ideally, you need gentle, natural products that protect your skin. Our range of products are formulated with 100% natural plant oils and butters that are packed with skin-loving nutrients that moisturise the skin, such as pumpkin seed oil and camellia oil. Even our Gently Nourishing Cleansing Balm will leave your skin feeling nourished and moisturised, whilst effectively removing make-up, dirt and toxins from your face.
Alongside tightness, dry skin can also appear dull and rough to touch. One solution for this is exfoliation. Now I’m in my 40’s, I am exfoliating more often to rid my skin of dull skin. I only recommend exfoliating once or twice a week as your skin naturally exfoliates itself and over-scrubbing can also upset your acid mantle. Our Gently Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant is perfect for those who find acids or retinols too harsh. It’s formulated with apricot powder and hibiscus powder, which is a natural AHA to help rid skin of dull cells. We blend it with avocado seed oil, to drench your skin in moisture and leave your skin silky smooth. Try mixing our Gently Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant with our Gently Nourishing Cleansing Balm instead of water for a more intense exfoliation that feels and smells amazing on the skin. You’ll rediscover your natural inner glow!
Many of our customers are menopausal and suffering with dry, itchy skin due to depleting levels of oestrogen, which is required for the skin’s natural hydration mechanisms. Our best-selling Hydration Boost Moisturising Balm offers some serious relief from the dryness and itchiness and we know a lot of you can’t live without it! Formulated with deeply nourishing mango butter, rosehip oil, babassu butter, argan oil and sea buckthorn oil this creamy balm is less heavy than conventional moisturisers and absorbs beautifully into the skin and leaves it balanced and comfortable.
One of the joys of the products in our capsule collection is that they can be layered on the skin for additional benefits and a boost of moisturisation as and when you need it. For example, if your skin is only temporarily dry because of the cold weather we’re having you can layer our facial oils with our best-selling Hydration Boost Moisturising Balm if you want to give your skin an extra boost of nourishment. Try mixing a bit of the Hydration Boost Moisturising Balm with the Overnight Replenishing Oil at bedtime. Wake up to super soft and glowing skin!
