I had a conversation with my mother-in-law this week about our Overnight Replenishing Oil that she’s been using since we launched 5 years ago. She had been reading the booklet that we include with orders and she said “I didn’t know about inhaling the essential oils before I apply it to my skin….isn’t it lovely and relaxing!” Oops! Naughty daughter-in-law for not showing her how to use it properly all those years ago! It got me thinking that there might be other customers who don’t know all the little tips and tricks that are part of the Husk & Seed ritual. These tips will elevate your experience and boost your wellbeing at the same time!
Inhale the essential oils
This tip applies to all of the Husk & Seed products except the super-sensitive range, which is essential oil free: take a minute to warm the product between your fingertips and take a few deep breaths to inhale the essential oils before applying to the face. The deep breaths will immediately relax your shoulders and the essential oil blend (depending on the product) will have a calming, grounding, uplifting or energising effect on your mind. We choose only the freshest, premium essential oils so be sure to enjoy them to the fullest!
Press the facial oils and balms into the skin
If you have used traditional, cream moisturisers in the past you might be used to rubbing these into the skin rather than pressing. We press our oils into the skin as they can penetrate deeper into the skin than thicker creams. Also, pressing doesn’t cause any friction, which is particularly beneficial for those with sensitive, delicate skin as it will reduce irritation.
Incorporate a facial massage
Our facial oils are perfect for carrying out a facial massage at home and the health benefits of this are amazing! Even a short 3- or 4-minute massage reduces puffiness, drains lymph to release toxins, defines the jaw line, improves circulation and relaxes any tension in the head and face.
With clean hands, apply a little Overnight Replenishing Oil or Botanical Day Oil to your face and fingertips. This will create a little slip and prevent you dragging your skin as you move around your face. Tracing the heart-shape of your face start in the centre of your forehead, push down quite firmly or use circular motions to ease tension. Do what feels right, linger longer on one spot if it feels good, move on if it’s too sore. Wendy suffers from sinusitis so she finds it especially helpful to press either side of her nose where there is a lymph drainage spot as this can release the pressure. I hold most of my tension in my jaw, so I focus on massaging my jawline, which also helps to keep it firm.
Layering
If your skin is particularly dry and you need an extra boost of nourishment, you can layer either of the facial oils with a bit of the Hydration Boost Moisturising Balm. Apply a couple of drops of the oil first, then then the moisturising balm. Follow with your SPF for morning application.
Beautiful hands
As we love to multi-task, this is one of my favourite tips! For an indulgent hand scrub try mixing the Gently Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant with a few drops of either the Vitamin-Rich Day Oil or the Overnight Replenishing Oil for super soft hands that will smell amazing!
